The first NCAA Division 1 commitment out of the league this season has been made as Forward Lukas Samuelsson. Samuelsson is currently playing for the Toronto Predators has committed to the University of Michigan Wolverines for the 2017-2018 season.
Lukas, the son of former 14 year NHL Veteran and Stanley Cup Winner Kjell Samuelsson, was born into a hockey family and he has done exceptionally well. His brother is also a 2019-2020 University of Michigan Commit.
The 6'0" Swedish/American dual citizen, has been playing for Northwood Prep School in both the prep and junior programs where he put up 22 points (12G, 10A) in 52 games for Northwood.
Samuelsson spent time in the USPHL Premier League for the Portland Jr. Pirates where he focused on becoming a much more rounded two way player who took every opportunity he had to show what he had on the back end to add to his impressive offensive skill set.
It is this season that we are getting to see exactly what that skill set is capable of when Samuelsson is surrounded with pieces that accentuate him. This season with the Toronto Predators Samuelsson is on a point per game pace with 6 Points (4G, 2A) and is well on his way to leading the Predators to the first winning season in franchise history.
The University of Michigan has long been a supporter of talent in the GMHL whether for their NCAA program or their club teams and Samuelsson is hopefully just the first in a long line of NCAA Commits this season.
Congratulations Lukas good luck this season with the Predators as you prepare yourself for next year.
