Worth Noting

My name is Colin Junior McCartney and I am 20 years old – born on August 10th, 1994. I am currently a York University student acquiring my undergraduate in the Faculty of Health for Kinesiology & Health Science. I am 6’1, 180lbs and a right-handed shot. The largest passion in my entire life is the sport of Hockey. I am a very versatile player and pride myself in not having any true gaps or weaknesses in my abilities. Growing up, whenever I had a weaker aspect of my game I would work harder at practicing that particular area of my game to develop it into a strength of my game. Thus, I do not believe I have any true weaknesses or faults but rather am a complete hockey player. I grew up most of my life playing up front as a forward and normally was found in the middle of the faceoff circle as a centre. However, when I was 16 years old due to a shortness of defensemen on the team I was playing on for a time and my favourite NHL player actually being a defensemen I volunteered to take on the role of filling in the void on the blue line. After this moment I never looked back and have considered myself to be strongest on the ice when a defensemen. As a D-Man I do bring good offensive ability, since I played most of my life in an offensive role as a forward both as both a playmaker at times to even being a trigger-man / goal scorer other times – depending on the team and my linemates. So, I have been able to translate a lot of my offensive abilities into being a defenseman to help out on both ends of the ice. I believe that my utmost largest strengths as a hockey player would be my hockey smarts with regards to good decision making both with and without the puck, quick hands / puck control, my ice vision and my passing. I am a player that is very teachable and a good listener of instructions and directions given by superiors such as coaches, trainers and managers. I am very sportsmanlike and come to understand roles I can play very well. Willing to play 5-on-5 minutes, powerplay time and penalty kill time and believe that I am well suited for all three of these on-ice situations. Most of all, I am very prideful of my leadership abilities. Ever since I can remember I have always led people and have continued to do that in my life both on and off the ice, during hockey and outside of hockey. A good example of this would be the many times I have served as a captain or alternate captain on hockey teams to even last summer where I was hired at Muskoka Woods Sports Resort for summer work as their Waterfront Area Head where I supervised all the waterfront activities and instructors – some of which were older than myself (19 years old). I want to play for your hockey club in the GMHL for a few reasons. For one, I miss playing the game at a competitive level. I have friends in the GMHL and consider myself to be of similar, if not better skill level than them and would love to play with and against more of this skill level. I miss the team aspect, developing my skills through being coached and trained, and the camaraderie found in a good team. Also, I aspire to be a high level coach one day and would love to be able to learn the aspects of coaching through a high level coach in the GMHL. Lastly, your team is located in a desirable location for myself due to the fact that I am a student at York University and live in the city of Toronto.
